THE WOMAN’S CLUB OF CINCINNATI

Clare and Jeremy have the fairytale love story and chose me to to document their vintage inspired wedding at The Woman’s Club of Cincinnati.

Clare and Jeremy met as kids and grew up together in the historic neighborhood of Clifton. So much of their life is rooted in this neighborhood that they wanted to include it in almost every part of the wedding journey. As teenagers Jeremy worked at the local pool and the two of them spent a lot of time there together with friends during the summer. When it was time to do their engagement photos they came home and of course wanted their engagement pictures done in Clifton, so we opted for their favorite summertime pool. Their engagement session was amazing. These two actually jumped into the pool fully clothed at the end of their session. HERE is their engagement session gallery. It was seriously so much fun.

Keeping with the Clifton neighborhood theme, Clare decided that the most appropriate thing to do was to get ready at her childhood home, conveniently located in Clifton. Their home is absolutely beautiful and matched perfectly with the old charm vintage wedding theme. Once everyone was dressed and ready to go we took a short drive over to Mount Storm Park for the couple’s first look and wedding party pictures. The gazebo there and the mature tress overlooking downtown Cincinnati provided the perfect backdrop for some classic wedding photos.

Next stop, the wedding venue, and The Woman’s Club of Cincinnati did not disappoint. If you would like to read the history of the club you can find it here. Just like everything else about their wedding, this venue was on par with the vintage theme of the wedding. Clare and Jeremy held their ceremony in the auditorium of the venue, where the stage was beautifully decorated with a full floral arrangement, courtesy of Clare’s aunt, Karla. The ceremony was very interactive and it concluded with a traditional Jewish glass breaking. The remainder of the day was full of laughs with family and friends that the couple have not been able to see in a while. They finished their night with the horah, which for me was a very interesting experience that I was very excited to witness.

I was truly honored to be part of Clare and Jeremy’s wedding experience and I am excited to see where their love for one another takes them.

I knew from the first time I Morgan, Tyrell and I met, at there engagement session, that these two would be so much fun to work with. They opted for a late morning wedding at Drees Pavilion in Devou Park in Covington, Kentucky for their intimate sized gathering. Morgan and Tyrell wanted to keep their ceremony as simple as possible but still bring in elements that defined and represented their love for one another. They made sure to incorporate Morgan’s daughter, Olivia into their ceremony. She she had the biggest smile on her face as she watched her grandfather walk her mother down the aisle. She never took her eyes off her mom. You could tell Olivia has been waiting on this day for a long time by the look in her eyes. Morgan, Tyrell, and Olivia made their family official by blending their sand together as one during a sand ceremony.

The moment Morgan told me they were getting married in Devou Park I told her I knew the perfect location for their bridal portraits. There is a wild flower field that is in full bloom from late July into the fall and it is absolutely gorgeous for wedding portraits.

Ashley and Isiah had been waiting on this day, for what seems to be like forever. Originally, they were scheduled to tie the knot in June of 2019, but life happened and their wedding had to be postponed. Then of course 2020 came and flipped everyone’s lives upside down. When they set their new date for July 2, 2021 we were all determined to get these two down the aisle to say their “I do’s”.

The week leading up to their wedding date the weather was rainy and overcast. Even on the future forecast it had rain predicted for their Friday evening outdoor wedding, but as luck would have it the rain and clouds disappeared and the sun graced us with its presence for a picture perfect wedding ceremony. For a July wedding day the weather couldn’t have been more perfect.

Ashley and Isiah left no wedding day detail unturned. Lake Lyndsay Lodge was beautifully decorated with dusty rose and mauve table clothes with ivory and gold accents. Dana did a beautiful job with making their theme of Elegant Glam come to life. For their DJ they hired Ric Sexton, whom I had the pleasure of working with last summer. He is not only an amazing DJ, he is also a very talented and soulful saxophonist. Most of the guest were unaware that he was going to break out the sax but when he did all eyes were on him. It is something about a man on a saxophone that gets everyone’s attention, young and old. In addition to having a saxophonist they also had a 360 photo booth set up for the guest to enjoy. I personally have never seen one of these but it is defiantly worth having at any event to entertain your guest. This event was defiantly planned with the guest in mind.

Georgina and Ryan are the definition of a resilient bride and groom. The months leading up to their wedding we were all set to have their wedding at another venue in their city of, Louisville, until a month before their actual wedding day. When they went to do the final walk through of their original venue they learned that it had been remodeled and there was not enough space for their guest to be seated. With the help of their wedding planner, Hummingbird Page Events, they were able to find The Refinery Events for their new venue location. But with the location change, now two weeks before their wedding day, meant they had to find a new caterer and a slew of other decor pieces for their new event space. All I can say is that these two were troopers and it all came together perfectly on their wedding day.

The day started at Bolt and Tie, a luxury apartment complex that sits behind The Refinery. The Refinery gives its clients the option to add on an apartment at Bolt and Tie for the bride to get ready at. If you are considering this location for your wedding I would highly advise you to add on this option. The apartment rental includes access to Bolt and Tie’s recreational room and rooftop lounge area. Both locations offer nice views of downtown Louisville, Kentucky and are great places for bridal party and detail pictures.

After the “I dos” were said and the unity candle was lit it was time to eat and party. I have no idea how and where they found DJ John Q, but he is at the top of my wedding DJ list. This man played the perfect combination of Latin, Hip Hop, and R&B for this multicultural wedding. He kept everyone on the dance floor throughout the night. What’s a party without an amazing DJ?

The Cincinnati Art Museum is one of the most beautiful venues I have shot in. Stephaney’s and Sean’s wedding was the second wedding I had the pleasure of covering here. Located right above downtown Cincinnati in Eden Park, it overlooks the gorgeous Cincinnati Skyline. Getting married here doesn’t boost for a lot of art gallery photos, because of the copy right laws, but the surrounding grounds that the museum sits on are absolutely stunning.

Stephaney and Sean were married outside in the courtyard of the museum during the height of Cicada Season. This made for a very interesting ceremony. Not only were the guest and the wedding party dodging these annoying bugs left and right, so was I but you certainly can’t tell by looking at their wedding pictures. Stephaney was a breath of fresh air. The dress she chose matched the elegance of the venue perfectly. It was simply, classic, and elegant, just like the bride herself. Although, the cicadas were serenading us with their mating songs these two didn’t let that stop them from getting those sought after wedding portraits that Eden Park and the Art Museum have to offer.

Amanda, Katie, and I utilized every square inch of the outdoor space around the museum. Stephaney and Sean decided to do their first look in the ceremony space in the courtyard. The courtyard during the summer is full of beautiful flowers and plants and on this particular day it was overcast so the light we were blessed with couldn’t have been more perfect. The front stairs at the main entrance are iconic and if you’re shooting at this venue you must get photos of the wedding party and bride and groom here. Then at sunset take advantage of the area on the left side of the building that overlooks downtown Cincinnati. This is one of the best locations for those oh so favorite golden hour portraits.

When all the portraits are said and done its time to party and man did we have a good time.

Patricia and Rashad became Mr. and Mrs. Lockhart on an unseasonably cold and windy May Saturday on top of the roof of Embassy Suites in Covington, Kentucky. Although the weather wasn’t favorable at least it didn’t rain. The overcast skies gave us the perfect and most even lighting anyone could ask for on their wedding day.

The day started with Patricia, her daughters, and her bridesmaids getting ready in their suite. It was all smiles and hands on deck for this bride and her team. Patricia had a smile on her face the entire day. Even when the belt to her dress was not included in her dress bag she was prepared with a back up belt. This is when I predicted (and I was correct) that she must be a Virgo, because only us Virgos will think of everything that could go wrong and plan to have a backup to correct it. The show must go on!

Once we wrapped up the ceremony and the bridal party pictures we snuck off to a platform directly behind the hotel that sits on the Ohio River. Here you have the perfect view of downtown Cincinnati and the Roebling Suspension bridge. Lucky for us the weather did us a huge favor. Since it was so cold (and I’m talking in the 50’s Memorial Day Weekend) not that many people were out. This area is usually very populated on the weekends during the warmer months, especially on a holiday weekend. I took some of my all time favorite wedding pictures to date on this landing and I have our city’s unpredictable weather to thank for that.

CHEERS to the first wedding on the 2021 wedding season. We all know 2020 was a strange and difficult time for many of us for many different reasons. But being able to be part of Morgan’s and Jake’s wedding day, for a moment, erased all of what we endured navigating the craziness of 2020.

Morgan and Jake decided to become one on a very rainy Mother’s Day afternoon. The first thought that usually comes to mind for a bride that is facing a soggy wedding day is usually panic, but not for Morgan. She embraced the rain and still wanted to move forward with their outdoor first look at a park a short distance from their wedding venue. The Factory Events venue were very accommodating and had those cute clear plastic umbrellas that everyone loves on hand for us to use as we walked through the rain.

Morgan’s and Jake’s first look was so tender and sweat. Being able to witness such an intimate moment between two people so in love was the highlight of my day. Seeing Jake’s face when he turned around to see his bride to be was so magical. It is clear that he is in love with Morgan with every itch of his being. Photographing these two was effortless because you could physically feel their love for one another. But the best part of their first look, and in my opinion the entire wedding day, was the walk we did in the rain back to the venue. I have always wanted to shoot in the rain and these two gave me exactly what I wanted without disappointment. Barefoot, walking through the neighborhood of Northside without a care in the world. They definitely stopped traffic as drivers yelled out their windows to congratulate the two of them.

This wedding was the perfect start to a busy wedding season. Be on the look out for more beautiful couples like these two.

Modern Bride Spring Shoot at Graduate Cincinnati | Rachel + Reggie

Brittney and I have been wanting to work together for a LONG time now and thought we would finally get the opportunity to do so this summer for a wedding we were both hired for. However, those plans went south and we were both bummed about not being able to work together, until Brittney conjured up an idea for a vibrant Spring styled wedding. So, naturally when she reached out to me a few months ago asking if I wanted to be part of her idea I quickly leaped at the opportunity. And boy am I glad I did.

Brittney is the founder and owner of Detailed Days Event Design, Cincinnati’s premier wedding design firm. Brittney is amazing at what she does. She took a simple vision she had in her head and designed a classic but elegant vibrant table design fit for a Spring bride and groom. She left no detail behind. From the oversized bouquet arrangements to the detailed cake design, made by Southern Treats, to the personalized invitation suites, designed by J Char Designs, Brittney literally thought of everything. With the help of BoChic Bridal and Crowned King Apparel Rachel’s bridal gown with her red pumps and Reggie’s fire red suit were definitely show stoppers.

And lets not forget to mention the venue that so graciously hosted us. Graduate Cincinnati is a hotel located conveniently on University of Cincinnati campus. The hotel celebrates Cincinnati’s local icons and the city’s architecture in every part of the hotel. You’ll find the Bearcat statue on the lower level of the hotel entrance, along with the main lobby decorated as a university cafeteria. The colors are very vibrant and upbeat and scream, “you’ll have a good time here”. It doesn’t stop with the main areas of the hotel either, the unique flare of the hotel continues into the rooms as well. The room we were using had Bootsy Collins wallpaper in the bathroom (I wish I would have taken a picture).

This event was one for the books in my career so far. After dealing with all the uncertainties and ups and downs of 2020 (aka the year from HELL), starting off wedding season with this styled shoot was a breath of fresh air. Now I’m ready to jump full swing into 2021’s busy wedding season. But until then enjoy these breathtaking photos of Rachel and Reggie.

Styled shoots are a time for wedding vendors to come together and create portfolio pieces that attract our ideal clients for the upcoming wedding season. The biggest change are the discontinuing of the large over the top weddings and exchanging them for the “NEW” Micro Weddings. Many photographers have been charged with the task of revamping their portfolios to attract a new type of client. A client that is looking for a more intimate and laid back wedding with a small bridal party and fewer guest. The best way to get your creative juices flowing is joining some styled shoots that cater to this new brand of wedding photography. Which, by the way I actually thoroughly enjoy.

Dallas Castle Photography hosted this Industrial Bohemian Styled Shoot at Cincinnati’s favorite, Mojave East. This styled shoot was everything and more for me. 2020 has been the year of growth and my introduction into wedding photography. After shooting 17 weddings this year I was ready for a fun and creative shoot to help me create the imagery I need in my portfolio to attract my ideal clients. I am looking forward to attending Dallas’ future styled shoots this winter.

LGBTQ Boho Themed Fall Wedding | Josh + Noah

Oh boy! Where do I start with Josh and Noah’s wedding day?

For starters these two love birds got married on 10-10-20 at Mount Echo Park. They rented out 2 rooms at 21c Museum Hotel in Downtown Cincinnati to get ready for their wedding day with about 20 of their closest friends and family. When we arrived to their rooms they had the music playing and alcohol flowing (nobody was tipsy yet). They had their two fur babies who were just as happy as they could be running around the hotel in all the commotion of the day. I knew from the moment Josh handed me the details for their wedding that it was going to be a one of a kind wedding and the day did not disappoint. They truly spared no expense with their wedding details. From their Cartier rings to their matching suits and shoes to the dogs matching pearl leashes and flower necklaces. Everything had been carefully thought out and planned.

As we were getting ready to leave to load the party bus to head to the Purple People Bridge for wedding party portraits Josh decided that the Purple People Bridge was too cliché and he wanted something different. His exact words were, “I want to go somewhere ratchet with trash on the ground”. Now if you have seen some of my other work, specifically the shoots I have done with my step sons Brian and Brandon and Johnessa, then you know I love an ugly location, or in this case a ratchet location, to create some beautiful and unique photos. I gave the party bus driver the street name and a nearby location address and told him he would be in the right place if it looked too sketchy to get off the bus. But no worries the area is actually going through some renovations so in a few years it won’t even be recognizable. When the wedding party arrived Josh was absolutely in love with the location, meanwhile the wedding party was a little apprehensive but they quickly got over it.

Now for the actually wedding venue. Mount Echo Park sits on top of one of Cincinnati’s many hills and over looks downtown Cincinnati on the west side of town. Allie Burke of Premier Park Events did an amazing job transforming the pavilion into a fall boho themed wedding and reception area. Josh and Noah pledged their love and commitment for each other at the far end of the pavilion overlooking the park under a beautiful flower arch. After they said their “I do’s” that is when the fun really began. As the sun began to set over the city they had a sparkler entrance to welcome them as a now married couple. Once the cake was cut, dinner served, and the wedding speeches were complete Josh, Noah, and all their guest danced the night away under the clear fall sky and stars. They truly planned their wedding with their guest in mind.

The amount of love and support these two have surrounding them is overwhelming. I wish Josh and Noah nothing but the best on their journey through life together.

Hindu-American Wedding at Music Hall | Priya + Bryce

Priya and Bryce were married at Cincinnati Music Hall during a Covid friendly ceremony. With Priya being a doctor and Bryce being a teacher they opted to still have their ceremony but drastically reduced the amount of guest who could attend their special day. But no worries, they did not let their friends go without being able to be part of their day. They held a Zoom Meet throughout the entire ceremony and during the reception. To have a more intimate celebration with their virtual guest Priya and Bryce held breakout sessions during cocktail hour so everyone could give them well wishes.

After all the zoom breakout sessions had been concluded it was time to party and Priya and Bryce definitely are the life of the party. Although their wedding was not the wedding big wedding they had planned they still made it enjoyable for the approximately 25 guest that were in attendance. They had 3 very delicious food stations; Mexican, Hindu, and American. It was something for everyone.

After the food had been eaten and the cake had been cut Priya’s maid of honor had planned a surprise for the newly weds. Her and a few others had arranged for a surprise caravan of Priya and Bryce friends to do a celebratory drive by in front of Music Hall. This was completely unexpected and the looks on Priya and Bryce faces were of pure excitement that so many people cared enough to still attend their special day even if it were just a quick drive by to say congratulations.

The day was simply amazing and full of laughter, excitement, and fun. Although Covid caused their plans to be altered Priya and Bryce did not miss out on their fun. So, Cheers to many years of happiness and love for these two!

Intimate Manor House Fairytale Wedding Ceremony | Miranda + Vincent

Friday July 31, 2020 was the perfect afternoon to say “I do”. The forecast had threats of rain all day and we were all praying that we could at least make it through the bridal party portraits outdoors before the rain took over Miranda’s and Vincent’s special day. So much had already been changed and or altered due to the Covid-19 and we at least wanted their wedding pictures to be in the original spot that they had planned. Luckily for everyone the rain held off until after the wedding and pictures.

The overcast sky that stuck around provided the perfect backdrop for some amazing pictures of this intimate wedding. Miranda and Vincent had planned for a large 8 hour ceremony but when Covid hit they opted to continue with their original plans but cut the guest list down to the bare bones and postpone their reception. They were married in the Atrium room and it was the perfect place to hold their ceremony with a few close family members and friends. Honestly their bridal party made up almost half the amount of people who attended their wedding.
